Oracle has confirmed the news of its hiring of Hewlett-Packard CEO Mark Hurd. Mark was the hero of the messiest sex scandal of this year and was compelled to resign from the post of HP CEO last week. Hurd will be joining the company as Co-President alongside Oracle CEO and close friend Larry Ellison.
This comes as no surprise if you believed yesterday’s rumors of Hurd’s hire or took note of the fact that Ellison came to his defense during the controversy over allegations of harassment by former HP contractor Jodie Fisher.
According to The New York Times, Ellison chastised HP for firing Hurd last month, calling it “the worst personnel decision since the idiots on the Apple board fired Steve Jobs many years ago.”

Bastar: 200,000 or more dead in Haiti. Many more wounded and left homeless.
200,000 or more missing in Bastar. Nobody knows where they are. And many more living in Salwa Judum camps under atrocious conditions.
Wait, you might ask. Missing is better than dead, is it not so? After all, they must be somewhere, and there must be hope that they will be able to live?
Actually, not very likely. At least not for long. The jungles in Chhattisgarh are inhospitable, without easy access to food or drinking water. And there is always disease like malaria and bloody dysentery, which will get you if you if the forest does not.

New York: Online blogging is a trendy communication tool not just for tech-savvy humans. Now your car can also send messages on Twitter and have more followers than even singer Lady Gaga and US President Barack Obama.
The car that can tweet is AJ, a future model of Ford Fiesta, which is a test bed for company engineers exploring the possibilities when an automobile is connected to the internet and all of its concomitant services.
"It's getting pretty dark; time to put the headlights on," was a typical entry posted by AJ when a team of engineers drove the car to California for an exhibition in May, The New York Times reported.
Followers also learned when AJ's mood was "joyful" when "there's no traffic, and it's not raining and it's enjoying a winding road", said Joe Rork, an information technology architect with Ford.
Rork recalled the journey during a presentation in Manhattan and explained how AJ was sending the messages on its own.

Washington: A new research has suggested that incorporating social media in classes can be an attention-grabbing and effective teaching method. Dr. Mia Moody, an assistant professor of journalism and media arts at Baylor University, said that social media in lectures, textbooks and traditional discussion groups not only prepares students for current and future communication trends, but it gives those who are too shy to talk in front of their classmates an opportunity to open up via the Web.
Students can "create, swap and manipulate information on many levels and in real time," Moody said in her article Teaching Twitter and Beyond: Tips for Incorporating Social Media into Traditional Courses.
Social media also can provide quick, easy access to instructors outside the classroom, Moody said.
"One exercise, for example, might encourage students to discuss the prevalence of hate groups in social media or compare and contrast the goals and objectives of race-related groups on Facebook.

NEW DELHI: In keeping with India growing economic might and its status as a major investment destination, the hitherto humble rupee is all set to get a distinct identity in the form of a new symbol. The Union Cabinet on Thursday gave its approval to the symbol which combines the Roman letter R with the Devnagri Ra.
The symbol will catapult the rupee into the company of four elite currencies which have similarly distinct identities — the US dollar, Euro, Yen and British pound.
The symbol has been designed by D. Udaya Kumar, an IIT Bombay Post-Graduate , who has just joined as a teacher at IIT Guwahati. Kumar will receive a prize money of Rs 2.5 lakh for his efforts. The symbol will standardize the expression for the Indian rupee in different languages, both within and outside the country.
