Cops Deployed in Naxal Areas Lacking behind Basic Emenities

Over five thousand police personnel posted in remote south Bastar with grave responsibility to tackle with the naxal activities; are themselves bound to lead a life full of problems round the clock, having none of basic amenities, there even getting potable water and meals twice is proving a hard task, these day. In situation of illness there is no arrangement to provide proper medical assistance. They are all bound to be on duty round the clock, their entire night vanishes on eyes to confirm security of respective police stations, and from down to dust they all remain busy in safety of their own lives. Every moment, they are supposed to remain vigilant keeping the fingers intact over triggers as nobody knows where from the naxals may attack. The probabilities of demoralization for cops living under such critical circumstances can’t be denied. But even under indescribable bunches of problems and fears they are busy to perform their duties to their level best, certainly it exhibits their high morals.
A senior police officer posted in Bastar states that the D. F. Cops posted in naxal affected areas are having none of the basic facilities available there. There are 8-10 such police stations, where it is almost impossible to approach by road, and even ration is being sent there through the helicopters. Most of the cops there use to suffer from malaria, having no medical facilities. Such cops use to take shelters of traditional or unidentified (mediculus) herbs etc. Most of the area has been identified as malaria zone. Even after these problems the cops have kept intact their high-morals and are always prepared to face any of the naxal offenses.
Some among such cops stated that they are on duty even under critical and negative circumstances. They could not go homes for years together, as it is a hard task to get the leave sanctioned. There is no due communication facility, therefore it too is a rigorous job to have few telephonic conversations with family members. Wheat and vegetables are not easily available, they are use to get rice only. According to cops the situation is tense to such an extent that even to meet the call of nature or for easiness one have to remain under guards vigil. The reason behind day to day illness is that they are having no alternate except to consume the waters from rivers, ponds or nallah during regular patrolling.
These cops seemed a bit agrieved, while speaking that the cops of central forces use to perform only fixed 8 hours duty, having a systematic time table. But, the DF are bound to have their duties for entire 24 hours. Even after the fact that they are there since years, nobody takes in notice that they should be transferred somewhere else after a prescribed time frame as per standard norms.
It is creating the environment tense within. This pain of living in violent zone amist every sort of trouble, and unable to attend the family even under eminent necessities of their kins, is the hardship which is pinching deep to these cops.
The assistant commandant, 5th battalion, Anil Gurjar posted at Cherpal base camp of CRPF stated about troubles in bringing ration there, according to him it takes 3-4 days, sometimes cops could not get meals for prolonged period, he also complained about lack of drinking water or health facilities, or timely assistance.
We may give examples of the cops K. L. Tunga, P. H. Sundara Singh at SSB, 39th Battalion who are in Bastar since last one year, are fed up mentally as they are quite a distance away from their families. Similarly, constable Arun Sinha, who is posted in this district since last 5 years and awaiting for his transfer, so that he may spare his time with his family. A Kanker based lady constable Surekha Mandavi, has suffered with malaria several times, living in rented house as facility of Government quarter is not there. For treatment she has no alternative except to goto some other suitable place. One constable Harish Mandavi who has witnessed the devastating naxal blast claiming the life of fellow constable, and always remains calm witnessing several naxal violent scenes.
On these sort of troubles, insecurity problems of cops the regiment MLA Mahesh Gagra has stated that he has visited a number of police stations in the area, and really appreciate the morals of cops deployed or posted there, and is going to meet the Chief Minister personally to convey the problems and pains of cops, and every possible steps will be taken to confirm problem free duty for these brave and courageous cops.
